Five Reasons Why You Should Join The Air Force

With 16 years of military experience, I’ve been challenged, developed leadership skills, traveled the world, gained several degrees, made lots of wonderful friendship and lived abroad.  At the age of 19, I NEVER thought I would take the leap and be part of The United States Air Force.  It never crossed my mind until my best friend(Antoinette) from high school mentioned the Air Force and introduced me to a recruiter who would signed me up for four years of military service.

It was June of 2001 as I sat on my parents’ porch in New Jersey and I told myself “I want a change in scenery,” I was tired of my environment.  I called up the recruiter (Staff Sergeant Green) who I met the year prior and told him I wanted to join the Air Force, he said “okay.”  A few days later, he picked me up and I took my Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery test (ASVAB).  The recruiter Sergeant Green asked me the question, “So what are you going to do?”  I replied, I guess I am joining the military. Heck at 19 years of age, what else was I doing?

After my life changing decision, I surprised my family, friends and myself; they could not believe it and in September of 2001, I headed for basic training.  Do I regret making that big decision without any input from my family and friends?  No, it has been one of the best decisions of my life!
